When Should I get a rapid test?

Rapid tests are considered most accurate in patients currently experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Those who have experienced an exposure to someone who is COVID-19 positive, or those who have COVID-19 symptoms may find rapid testing to be helpful. With that said, we understand that attendance or interactions in personal or professional settings may require a negative COVID-19 test result. Rapid testing can be highly preferable in those circumstances as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Rapid testing is considered most accurate when viral loads are at their highest.

Nashville COVID Testing follows CLIA, CDC, FDA, state, and the diagnostic manufacturers guidance regarding testing protocols. Protocols include the use of PPE, safety, sanitation, surface preparation, patient interaction, result verification, outcome reporting, and various other standards in place to ensure the highest quality diagnostic environment.

There are two types of diagnostic tests. One is what is referred to as a “send-off” test. These molecular tests use special laboratory instruments to detect genetic material from the virus. While these tests are considered the “gold standard” in laboratory testing. They can take several days to provide results. The second type of diagnostic test is called an antigen test. Antigen testing is designed to detect specific proteins found in the virus. Negative test results should be considered presumptive and positive results should be followed up with PCR testing for confirmatory purposes.

When it comes to diagnostic testing, we look at both sensitivity and specificity. Sensitivity refers to a tests ability to correctly identify patients with a particular disease. Our test has an emergency use authorization certified by the FDA with sensitivity of 88.4% and specificity of 100%.

Our website is designed with convenience in mind. Prospective patients can schedule, fill out intake information, and pay for testing, all online.

Rapid test disclosure

Rapid testing in Nashville for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Antigen detects nucleocapsid protein antigen using a nasopharyngeal swab. This long and skinny swab is used to collect a specimen from within the patient’s nose. Proper collection techniques require the swab to be inserted to approximately half of the distance between the nostril and the ear before being withdrawn and tested.

It is during the acute phase of infection that the antigen is generally detectable. Negative results should be considered presumptive and do not rule out the presence of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection. Positive results do not rule out the possibility of a bacterial infection or even the presence of of other viruses.
